As the year draws to a close, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect on the small but meaningful moments that have shaped lives in classrooms across Devon. Because so much of what matters in education happens in the little moments — the ones you only notice when you’re there in the classroom. It’s the quiet confidence of a child who finally puts their hand up. The moment a lesson clicked because someone explained it in a way that made sense. The calm reset after a tricky transition. The smile from a pupil who wasn’t smiling last week. These are the moments we hear about from our teachers and support staff every day. They’re easy to miss from the outside, but they’re the ones that stay with you. This year, we’ve seen these moments shaped by a wonderfully diverse team -- early career teachers growing in confidence with each placement, experienced TAs creating gentle structure for children who need it most, and educators joining from other professions, bringing fresh and transferable skills to the classroom.
It’s a team defined not by just one background or pathway, but by a shared commitment to children, learning and kindness. And as our recruitment has grown this year, so has the range of strengths and experiences they bring to schools across Devon. We’ve also seen, time and time again, how the partnerships between our schools and staff create the environments where these everyday wins can happen. The warm welcomes, the clear communication, the trust in people’s professional judgement. These are the things that make a real difference. So, as we wrap up the year, we simply want to celebrate the small things: the resilience, the care, the adaptability, the moments of connection. Thank you to every teacher, support worker and school who have been a part of these stories. We’re so grateful for each one.
