I Began studying education in 2011 and have been a supply teacher since September 2019
I did my PGCE training through Exeter Consortium, with my main placement being within a year 3 classroom. Before my training, I studied primary education for 3 years at the University of Wales, worked within a private school for 1 year, as well as studying and visited different educational facilities whilst travelling across New Zealand. Since I finished my PGCE, I have visited many schools across Exeter, ranging from Year 1 classes, up to Year 6.
I chose to become a supply teacher as I wanted to see education throughout many different schools in Exeter. By visiting and teaching in a range of different schools, I believe I will be able to make a clearer, and more concise choice for when I do decide to apply for permanent positions.
During my time in supply teaching, I have really enjoyed teaching children of all year groups. As I have predominantly taught lower key-stage 2, it was exciting to visit and teach in Years 1 and 6 for the first time.
I chose to work with ESP because…
I decided to work through ESP as I did my training through their partner Exeter Consortium.
My go to backup resources if there is no planning available are….
As I only finished my teacher training in September 2019, I have kept all of my planning, as well as examples and lesson proformas completed by my mentors on my google drive, which is easily accessed via my phone or a laptop. This google drive contains lessons, resources and website URLs.
3 benefits I think there are to supply teaching/ working with ESP are …
1) The ability to work in many different, and exciting locations across Exeter
2) A friendly and reliable team of people to help with the booking process, as well as being able to help with any problems that may arise along the way
3) A very handy app to deal with bookings and scheduling which makes all job offers and timetabling very simple
Tips/ advice I would you give to someone thinking about supply teaching or just starting out…
I couldn’t recommend working for ESP any higher! If you want to be able to teach in schools through a trusted and reliable organisation with a schedule that suits you… this is your organisation!
